An earthquake of magnitude 8.4 was recorded in Lake Baikal in central Russia

An 8.4-magnitude earthquake occurred in the waters of Lake Baikal near the village of Bolsho Golustno, Irkutsk region, central Russia, reports the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations.

An earthquake was recorded in the Irkutsk region at 15.25 Moscow time (20.25 GMT).

"The epicenter was located 17 kilometers from the village of Bolsho Golustno on Lake Baikal. The intensity at the epicenter was 8.4 degrees. In the cities of the region, the intensity of the earthquake reached about 5 degrees," the ministry's report said.

According to the press services of the municipalities of the Angara region, there are no casualties or destruction.

All infrastructure facilities are operating normally.
