Rau called the sixth package of anti-Russian sanctions an important step towards ensuring the independence of Europe from energy from Russia.

Earlier, Deputy Foreign Minister of Poland Pavel Yablonsky said that the EU authorities had begun work on the seventh package of anti-Russian sanctions.

The sixth package of EU sanctions against Russia was finally approved on 3 June.

The new sanctions package provides for the disconnection of Sberbank, Rosselkhozbank and Moscow Credit Bank from SWIFT, as well as a partial and gradual waiver of oil imports from Russia.
