Since 2011, Vingåker municipality has worked with so-called night fasting measurements.

It is a measurement that is made twice a year and shows how long it has been between the last meal in the evening and the first in the morning.

The National Board of Health and Welfare's recommendations say that it should take a maximum of 11 hours.

- Vingåker has not been the best in the class.

We have had quite a few people who have had more than 11 hours of night fasting, says Robert Skoglund, chairman of the social committee in Vingåker municipality.

Produces an individual action plan

Now the municipality wants to introduce a new method to meet the nutritional needs of the elderly.

Through a survey, all people in the nursing homes will be mapped and an individual action plan will be drawn up.

- The night fast measurements are a blunt tool.

You measure on two occasions a year and get the picture of what it is like then.

Instead, we want to develop an individual plan that will apply 365 days a year and where we constantly make sure that all residents do not get too long a break between meals, says Robert Skoglund.

According to Skoglund, the new method should not involve additional work for staff.

- It is about raising awareness and working on a more individual level with each resident, he says.
