The Coni'Fer trip went badly.

Nineteen people were injured, including one seriously, in the accident of this tourist train on Saturday afternoon near Pontarlier in the Doubs, obviously following sudden braking.

"There are 18 minor injuries and one seriously," said the prefecture.

"All the injured were transported to Pontarlier hospital", which triggered the White Plan to deal with the influx of patients, it was added.

The train was carrying around 30 people.

The other fourteen passengers were not injured, it was added.

The accident occurred around 1:30 p.m., near the town of Hôpitaux-Vieux, about fifteen kilometers south of Pontarlier.

For a reason that remains to be determined, this small tourist train of two wagons which criss-crosses the Haut-Doubs for a few kilometers at an altitude of around 1,000 meters, braked suddenly, the same source said.

According to the regional daily

L'Est Républicain

, the train was traveling at around ten km/h when the accident occurred.

Most of the passengers were then seated in the dining car.

A police investigation has been opened.
