Many Mercedes-Benzes are going to have to go back to the garage.

The German automaker is indeed recalling nearly a million vehicles due to a potential problem in the brake system, the Federal Transport Authority (KBA) announced on Saturday.

These are models dating from the years 2004 to 2015 of the ML and GL SUV series, as well as the luxury R-Class minivan, according to a KBA press release dated June 1 and published in the press on Saturday evening.

A problem with the brake servo

"Corrosion of the brake booster can, in the worst case, lead to a break in the connection between the brake pedal and the brake system", underlined the KBA.

“The service brake may in this case stop working”.

The Servo-brake is a device installed in a hydraulic braking circuit which increases the force applied to the master cylinder.

A total of 993,407 vehicles are recalled worldwide, including 70,000 in Germany, according to the KBA.

Mercedes-Benz has so far not reacted to this announcement.
