U.S. official: Commander in Rob Elementary school shooting didn't carry radio may have hindered on-site communication

An official from the Texas Department of Public Safety said on June 3 local time that Pete Arredondo, commander of the Uwald Integrated Independent School District Police Department, which belongs to Rob Elementary School in Texas, was in the process of killing 21 divisions. The dead Rob Elementary school shooter did not have a police radio with him during the standoff, which may have hindered his ability to communicate directly with police dispatchers.

At the time of the incident, the Uwald police dispatcher relayed to the police officers who were trying to rescue the students at 12:13 that day that the classroom was "full of victims at this moment."

Arredondo may not have heard from the dispatcher because he did not carry a police radio with him.

Nearly 20 police officers waited in the hallway outside the classroom for more than 45 minutes before taking action.

Due to a lack of communication, Arredondo believed all the children trapped in the classroom were dead and chose not to have direct contact with the gunman Ramos.

It is unclear whether other Uwald Police Department officers who were at the scene passed on the information described by the dispatcher to Arredondo.
