A forest fire is raging in the southern part of the Greek capital Athens on Saturday. Strong winds have caused the fire to spread rapidly and residents of Voúla, one and a half miles south of central Athens, have been forced to leave their homes. About 20 properties have been damaged.
The rescue service alerted residents via text messages when the flames approached the threatened area.
According to the town's mayor Grigoris Konstantelos, there have been no reports of people being injured.
Six water-bombing aircraft and three helicopters have been deployed to fight the flames.
