On the evening of the 4th local time, after four rounds of presidential elections, Bajram Begaj was elected as the new president of Albania with 78 votes in favor.

  In November 1998, Albania adopted a new constitution by referendum.

The constitution was amended in 2008.

The constitution stipulates that Afghanistan is a parliamentary republic and implements free, equal, universal and regular elections.

The President is the head of state and is elected by the parliament in secret for a five-year term.
