Mariah Carey has been sued for the title of her hit song 'All I Want for Christmas Is You'.

CNN reported that American songwriter and singer Andy Stone has filed a lawsuit in New Orleans federal court against Mariah Carey and her co-songwriter, Sony Music, for damages of at least $20 million.

Stone claims that he co-wrote a song with the same title five years earlier, and that Carrie later infringed the copyright by releasing a song with the same title.

However, the lyrics and melody are completely different.

Stone alleges that the defendants, including Carey, illegally took advantage of her popularity and unique style and caused confusion by releasing a song of the same title without her permission.

'All I Want For Christmas Is You', which was inserted into Carrie's 1994 album 'Merry Christmas', is a carol that is often played on the radio and shopping malls around Christmas time.
