Day of silence begins in Kazakhstan before the referendum on amendments to the Constitution

Under local law, campaigning is prohibited on the day before the referendum and on the day of voting.

At the same time, all printed materials, including posters, posted earlier outside the polling stations, may remain in their original places.

President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev earlier scheduled a referendum on amendments to the Constitution of the Republic for June 5.

The first Kazakh President, Nursultan Nazarbayev, said that during the referendum he would support amendments to the Constitution of Kazakhstan, including the exclusion of the mention of him from the main document of the country.
