On June 2, local time, according to a number of European media citing internal EU sources, the 27 EU member states officially approved the sixth round of sanctions against Russia on the same day after a one-day delay due to Hungary’s opposition.

The relevant sanctions are expected to come into effect the next day.

At the EU special summit that ended on May 31, EU leaders reached a consensus in principle on the sixth round of sanctions against Russia, including a "partial embargo" on Russian oil.

According to EU rules, the representatives of each member state in the EU also need to implement this political consensus into a legal text, and on this basis, the new round of sanctions against Russia can officially take effect.

Previously, because the Hungarian-Asian representative to the EU raised objections to some of the sanctions, the parties failed to pass the plan on June 1 as originally planned.
