The Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai has completed maintenance work for 74 trains, as of yesterday.

The authority is keen to conduct comprehensive maintenance programs (Overhaul) periodically for metro and railway vehicles, to achieve and enhance the safety and security of passengers in their daily commute.

Maintenance programs are implemented in cooperation with Keulis-Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, operator of the Dubai Metro and Tram, in accordance with the highest international standards and practices followed in this field.

Comprehensive maintenance operations are also carried out according to the recommendations of the metro equipment manufacturer (Original Equipment Manufacturer).

The Director of the Maintenance Department at the Rail Agency at the authority, Muhammad Al-Amiri, said that “trains are the most critical and sensitive means of public transport in maintenance work of all kinds, because conducting them based on well-thought-out plans achieves the highest levels of safety and security for the train operating system as a whole, thus ensuring the safety of passengers and their transportation in comfort. and safety.”

Al-Amiri explained: “In the Maintenance Department at the Rail Agency, we follow two types of maintenance programs and work: light maintenance, which is carried out every 14 days, or quarterly, and heavy maintenance, which is train repair operations according to the number of miles traveled.”

The LV2 is the highest level of maintenance, and includes overhauling every subsystem of trains, such as the subway cars, gear unit, tow motor, rotating bearings, pedal brake unit, train doors, VAC and pneumatic valves.

The maintenance work is entrusted to a specialized technical team, whose members are highly skilled, and it consists of 85 technical employees, including technicians, team leaders and engineers specialized in implementing the train repair maintenance program, and they work in three shifts to complete the work and tasks required within a specified time frame.

The maintenance of each train takes approximately 15 days from the response time until the comprehensive maintenance work is completed.

As of yesterday, the team completed maintenance work for 74 trains, during 348,324 working hours.

Comprehensive maintenance work for the trains is carried out in a well-equipped, air-conditioned maintenance workshop at Al Qusais Warehouse, which includes all facilities for heavy maintenance.

The workshop is equipped with an overhead crane, jib crane, lift system for trains and wagons, roof access arrangement, partial washing machine, electrical laboratory, wheel press and test benches, to carry out various maintenance and testing works.

It is worth noting that the first comprehensive maintenance of trains and railways was carried out in the Dubai Metro from 2015 to 2019. The second maintenance program (Overhaul LV2) for the trains began in January 2020, and will be completed by the second quarter of 2023.
