On 12 June, UL, Upplands lokaltrafik, will stop running Upptåget on the Uppsala-Sala and Uppsala-Gävle train lines.

Instead, Mälartåg takes over.

The prank then disappears as its own brand.

The tickets purchased by UL are still valid on trains as well as buses.

The idea is that the difference will be very small for travelers compared to today.

But the change of train operator raises great concern among staff who currently work at Upptågen, which P4 Uppland Swedish Radio was the first to tell about.

About a hundred employees are affected.

Have bothered before

One background to the concern is that there have been extensive problems with canceled trains and delays since Mälartåg took over train traffic between Uppsala and Stockholm from SJ in December 2021.

Frida Ukmar, CEO of the company MTR Mälartåg, understands the staff's concerns but says they do everything they can to respond with information.

MTR will also prioritize the punctuality of the new routes.

Instead, she believes that the change will have a number of positive consequences, such as that it may be easier to recruit train drivers when starting from Uppsala.

In the clip above, you can hear the union's and the CEO's different views on what the change of operator will mean for travelers.
