They are two 10-year-old girls whose funeral was organized first, away from the cameras.

First Amerie Jo Garcia.

She had just celebrated her birthday when she was murdered.

She wanted to become an art teacher, her family wrote in her obituary.

The second, Maïté Rodriguez dreamed of becoming a marine biologist.

This Wednesday, it will be the turn of teacher Irma Linda Garci and her husband who died two days later of a heart attack.

They leave behind four children.

Lives snuffed out for the victims and shattered lives for those who survived them.

They continue to ask themselves questions, in particular on the delay of the police intervention and on what could be done to avoid this kind of killing in the future.

In Washington, President Joe Biden, during a meeting with the New Zealand Prime Minister, whose efforts against violence he praised, promised to meet with members of Congress to discuss the arms problem.

Senators from both Democratic and Republican parties have begun discussions to find common ground, towards progress which everyone knows will be limited.

Uvalde's tragedy will have at least allowed that, even if 12 other mass shootings took place in the country during the long weekend which ended on Monday.

The funeral of the 19 children and two teachers who died on May 24 under the bullets will extend until mid-June.
