The Norwegian Refugee Center relies on three criteria.

First, the number of international initiatives to find lasting solutions to a crisis: summits of Heads of State, regional mechanisms or even peacekeeping forces.

In this area, for the past four years, Cameroon has occupied third place in the ranking for the lack of political commitment of the international community in the face of the difficulties of the populations of the Far North, North West and South West. .

Second criterion: the media attention given to crises.

The NRC is interested in the number of mentions in the media.

Example: there are almost two million displaced people in Burkina Faso due to attacks by armed groups.

But it has been mentioned as much in the international press since 2019 as Ukraine during the first three months of the conflict.

Third criterion: the lack of international financial aid.

In the Democratic Republic of Congo, for example, more than $2 billion was needed to cover the country's most basic needs in 2021. Only 44% of this amount has been covered.

And this year, so far, less than 10% of the necessary funds have been provided.

We see that the crises in Africa, for the most part, are crises that sometimes last for decades.

So that creates fatigue on the part of donors, on the part of the media... And if these crises are long-lasting it is also due to the lack of involvement and will of the international community.
