Syria..Dozens of militants were killed in an explosion at a weapons depot on the border with Turkey

A huge explosion rocked one of the main arms and ammunition depots belonging to the armed groups on the Syrian-Turkish border in the northern countryside of Idlib.

Yesterday, local sources confirmed that the explosion hit an ammunition depot containing missiles and military equipment belonging to an armed group in the town of (Babsqa) in the northern Idlib countryside.

Murshid, a Russian military expert with the Syrian National Defense in fighting positions opposite to Jabhat al-Nusra in the countryside of Aleppo.

The sources added that dozens of missiles are still flying in the airspace of the region, most of them fell inside Turkish territory, with huge explosions continuing in the area.

According to preliminary data, more than 60 militants were killed and injured in successive and continuous explosions so far, while the sources denied the availability of any confirmed information, up to the moment, about the causes of the explosion.

The border area between Syria and Turkey, which is controlled by armed groups, is an open market for arms and ammunition smuggling operations from Turkish territory towards Syria, where the bulk of them are stored in warehouses on the common borders in preparation for their entry and sale in the city of Idlib, according to the request.

In a related context, Rear Admiral Oleg Zhuravlyov, Deputy Head of the Russian Center for Reconciliation, said on Tuesday that the terrorist group Al-Nusra Front (banned in Russia) bombed the de-escalation zone in Syria's Idlib eight times during the past 24 hours.

He added: "Six attacks in Aleppo province, one in Idlib, and one in Latakia," noting that the artillery shelling by terrorists on government forces' positions resulted in the injury of a Syrian soldier in Aleppo province.

The Idlib de-escalation zone, which includes the province of Idlib and parts of the governorates of Aleppo, Hama and Latakia, is the last stronghold of the militants of the "Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham" organization, whose backbone is the "Al-Nusra Front", and armed groups loyal to Turkey are stationed in these lands.
