Pope Francis expressed great concern over the global food crisis caused by Russia's blockade of grain exports to Ukraine today (local time).

The Pope said this, referring to the Ukraine crisis at the end of the Wednesday general audience at St. Peter's Square in the Vatican.

"The lockdown on grain exports from Ukraine is causing great concern," the Pope added.

He continued, "To solve this problem, I earnestly appeal to everyone to do their best to ensure universal human rights to receive nutrition."

The United Nations is also concerned that the global hunger problem will worsen if the war is prolonged.
