“Budapest demanded that Patriarch Kirill, who heads the Russian Orthodox Church (ROC) ... be removed from the proposed list of persons subject to sanctions,” Bloomberg reports, citing sources.

It is noted that Hungarian officials also put forward a number of technical requirements regarding the embargo on Russian oil.

Earlier, the media reported that Lithuania sent the European Union a proposal to add Patriarch Kirill to the sanctions list because of Ukraine.

This information was confirmed by the country's Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said that the country would not support the inclusion of Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia on the European Union (EU) sanctions list.
