The penalty was not long in coming.

At the origin of a road accident while driving in a state of intoxication on Sunday, Ronan Kerdraon, president of the agglomeration of Saint-Brieuc (Côtes-d'Armor) was condemned Tuesday within the framework of an appearance on prior admission of guilt.

Former PS senator from 2010 to 2014, the 59-year-old elected official received an eight-month prison sentence suspended on probation.

His driver's license was also revoked with a two-month ban on retaking it and a two-year ban on driving a vehicle not equipped with an alcohol ignition interlock device.

His probationary suspension is also accompanied by an obligation to care, to compensate the victim and an obligation to follow a road safety awareness course.

Ronan Kerdraon was also fined 400 euros.

“It is a sentence commensurate with the gravity of the facts”, underlined Nicolas Heitz, public prosecutor of Saint-Brieuc.

Already convicted of driving while intoxicated in 2017

The elected socialist had lost control of his vehicle on Sunday afternoon in Binic-Etables-sur-Mer and hit a car arriving opposite.

The driver of the other vehicle was slightly injured and was prescribed 3 days of temporary incapacity for work (ITT).

After the accident, Ronan Kerdraon had a blood alcohol level of 0.76 mg of alcohol per liter of exhaled air, which constitutes an offence.

Mayor of Plérin since 2008 and president of the agglomeration of Saint-Brieuc since 2020, he had already been sentenced on March 28, 2017 for driving under the influence of an alcoholic state.
