It was about a month ago that Ian Newbery saw a post on social media posted by a colleague from Ukraine.

The colleague, named Lyudmyla Mysko Malyarenko, had created a sculpture in clay in the form of puzzle pieces with simplified figures, including bicycles, on top.

- I was so moved by this interpretation of the massacre that I felt I wanted to help, says Ian Newbery to SVT Nyheter Småland.

Made of Småland steel

Ian got the idea that the monument would be well suited to manufacture in Småland steel and he has been in contact with local sponsors who have promised to help.

Not all costs are covered yet, but at the end of June Lyudmyla will come to Sweden and Örsjö to complete the monument together with Ian.

The idea is eventually that the artwork will be transported to Ukraine.

- It will be in Butja later when the city is rebuilt, Ian tells SVT.
