A string of pearls of giant battleships from several countries is expected to Stockholm on Thursday and Friday.
The reason is an annual military exercise, Baltops 2022, which takes place between 5 and 16 June.
Among other things, the 257-meter-long landing craft USS Kearsarge will dock in the middle of Stockholm's stream between Södermalm and Kastellholmen.
The remaining military vessels will be in Frihamnen.
HMS Defender honors Elizabeth II
One of the ships arriving on Thursday is the British HMS Defender.
In honor of Britain's Queen Elizabeth II, who sat on the throne for 70 years on Thursday, the ship will fire a double salute, which means 42 shots.
- We do not yet know what type of loose ammunition will fire and how much it will sound.
But it can be good for Stockholmers to know that this will happen in Frihamnen and that there is no danger to the public, the navy's communications manager Rebecca Landberg.
