Ghosn facing Lebanese justice.

“Judge Imad Kabalan questioned Carlos Ghosn in the presence of his lawyer about the red notice” from Interpol, a judicial source told AFP on condition of anonymity.

Lebanon had received a red notice from Interpol in early May, which asks the authorities concerned to provisionally arrest people, before possible extradition or other legal actions.

This notice is based on the international arrest warrant issued in April by the French courts against the former head of the Renault-Nissan automobile alliance, as part of an investigation into misuse of corporate assets, misuse of trust, organized money laundering and passive corruption.

The ex-businessman who currently lives in Lebanon since his incredible flight from Japan at the end of 2019, was then released.

Ghosn's responses sent to France

The questions asked during the interrogation related to the charges mentioned in the red notice, the source continued.

According to her, Lebanon has already sent Carlos Ghosn's answers to the French judicial authorities.

Lebanon has also asked France to send all the evidence against Carlos Ghosn so that Lebanese justice can determine if he can be tried in Beirut, according to the same source.

Carlos Ghosn, who has Lebanese, French and Brazilian nationalities, was to be tried in Tokyo for alleged financial embezzlement when he was at the head of Nissan.

Since fleeing Japan in December 2019, Carlos Ghosn has not been able to leave Lebanon, which does not extradite its nationals and has already banned him from travelling.

If the international arrest warrant is executed, the ex-CEO will be presented to an investigating judge in France, in Nanterre, who will notify him of his indictment.
