The Israeli Air Force put anti-missile air defense systems on high alert, fearing that Iran would carry out retaliatory attacks to assassinate an officer of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards attributed to Israel, and also warned its citizens against traveling to Turkey.

Tehran had accused Israel of being involved in the killing of Colonel Hassan Sayyad Khodaye, who was killed last week when two people on a motorcycle shot him while he was driving, and vowed revenge.

Israeli media said that the decision to prepare the defense systems was taken after the leaks of the American newspaper "The New York Times", which confirmed that Tel Aviv had informed the US administration of its adoption of the assassination.

Al-Jazeera correspondent stated that the state of alert includes the Iron Dome system and all the air defense systems of David's Sling, Patriot and Arrow Gates.

The Israeli National Security Council also warned its Israeli citizens against traveling to Turkey for fear of being subjected to retaliatory operations from Iran over the assassination of Khodayi.

And the Israeli media quoted informed security sources, warnings of travel, including the neighboring countries surrounding Iran, including Azerbaijan, the UAE and Bahrain.

Israel had raised the state of alert in its representations and embassies, as well as in Jewish centers and synagogues.

The office of Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett, who oversees the Mossad intelligence service, declined to comment on the assassination, but Bennett said on Sunday that Tehran would "pay the full price" for inciting attacks on Israelis.

And the Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth revealed that Khadayi was accused of being responsible for the attempted assassination of an Israeli diplomat in New Delhi in 2012.

For his part, the commander of the Revolutionary Guards, Major General Hossein Salami, said that Khodaye was assassinated by the Zionists, and that his country would make them pay the price.

He added - during a meeting with the victim's family - that the enemy in the White House and Tel Aviv had been planning to assassinate Khodayi for months and years, as he put it.

The Iranian official stressed that the public opinion in his country demands revenge against the perpetrators of this operation, and that Iran will avenge the killing of Khadayi.
