At an escalating pace, and without stopping, the Israeli occupation is moving forward in the way of expanding the borders and units of the settlement of “Jabal Abu Ghneim”, known to Israel as “Har Homa”, which is located on the lands of Jerusalemites southeast of Jerusalem, by confiscating dozens of dunums of the lands of the towns of the Holy City. , to close it completely, and tighten its siege completely.

Land looting and the establishment of new settlement units inside Har Juma take the form of a settlement segregation belt that wraps around the lands of the Holy City, which reinforces the policy of separating it from the city of Bethlehem in the southern West Bank, and separating the neighborhoods of the two Palestinian cities.

The settlement of “Har Homa” perched on the lands of Mount Abu Ghneim, is one of the largest settlements southeast of Jerusalem, which confiscated 2,600 dunums of the lands of the two Jerusalem villages of Sur Baher and Umm Tuba, and the town of Beit Sahour inside Bethlehem, while it now separates the first two Qiblas and the third of the Two Holy Mosques. About the cradle of Christ with an insulating wall.

devouring vast areas

The District Building and Organization Committee in the occupation municipality is the party that approved the plan to expand the borders of the Palestinian lands that are devoured by the “Jabal Abu Ghneim” settlement, and the establishment of hundreds of new settlement units inside it in two phases, and the appropriation of 90 dunums of the lands of Sur Baher and Umm Tuba, according to the researcher in the affairs of City of Jerusalem, Fakhri Abu Diab.

Abu Diab indicates that the occupation will establish (344) new settlement units inside the settlement of Jabal Abu Ghneim, within the first phase of its expansion plan. Meat.

The researcher in Jerusalem affairs said in his interview with "Emirates Today": "The new expansion borders extend from (Har Homa) near the town of Umm Tuba, through several neighborhoods and Jerusalem towns, where the settlement of Jabal Abu Ghneim will connect to the settlements of (Givat Hamatos), and ( Gilo) in the town of Beit Safafa.

Abu Diab continues: "The plan to establish settlement units south of Jerusalem reaches (American Street), which has devastated large areas of the lands of Sur Baher, Umm Tuba, Jabal Mukaber, and the town of Silwan, in the heart of the Old City of the Holy City."

Banding and tearing

For his part, Director of the Map Department at the Arab Studies Association in Jerusalem Khalil Al-Tafkaji said, “The Israeli occupation has targeted the southern region in Jerusalem since the beginning of this year, by approving five new plans, to build 3,557 new settlement units, one of which is between two settlements ( Har Homa) built on the lands of Mount Abu Ghneim in the village of Sur Baher, and the settlement of (Givat Hamatos) in the town of Beit Safafa, and another scheme will be built at the top of the French hill towards Mount Scopus in the center of the Holy City.

Al-Tafkaji explains that the occupation's goal in the project to expand the "Har Homa" settlement is to encircle the Palestinian neighborhoods with the settlements, and divide them into small and besieged "cantons".

He points out that this contributes to tearing apart the geographical unity of Palestinian towns, changing their demographic features, and reinforcing the policy of isolation between them, specifically between Sur Baher and Umm Tuba of Jerusalem, and between the city of Bethlehem and the town of Beit Sahour, one of the most important Palestinian areas in the birthplace of Christ.

The town of Beit Safafa, south of Jerusalem, and to the north of Bethlehem, is adjacent to the towns of Umm Tuba and Sur Baher, but it is the most affected by the expansion of the “Har Homa” settlement, which eliminates the remaining areas in the town, and includes it with the settlement of “Givat Hamatos” located on the Palestinian lands, within the expansion plan, thus depriving the residents of their last breath.

Beit Safafa was deprived of two-thirds of its land area, leaving the population only 1,500 dunams, out of 4,500 dunams, as a result of the establishment of the settlements that besiege it, and the settlement streets that disperse and isolate its residents.

The occupation establishes four settlements on Palestinian lands, which governs the siege of Beit Safafa, Jerusalem, from its four sides, and restricts the movement and freedom of residents within their lands.

The District Committee for Building and Planning in the occupation municipality is the party that approved the plan to expand the borders of the Palestinian lands that are devoured by the “Jabal Abu Ghneim” settlement, and to establish hundreds of new settlement units inside it in two phases, and to seize 90 dunums of the lands of Sur Baher and Umm Tuba.
