The dive turned into a tragedy.

Friday afternoon, a freediver in his forties lost his life during an outing off the cove of Port Blanc in Plougasnou in the north of Finistère, we learned from the maritime prefecture of the Atlantic.

It was his relatives, worried about not seeing him return, who gave the alert around 2:30 p.m.

Significant resources were deployed at sea to try to find the diver with the intervention of the Civil Security Dragon 29 helicopter and a shuttle from the National Sea Rescue Society.

Half an hour later, the victim's body was spotted floating in the water.

Despite attempts to revive him, the diver was pronounced dead at 3:24 p.m.

At the request of the prosecution, his body was transferred to the Brest forensic institute for further examination to determine the precise circumstances of the accident.
