79 Palestinians injured in clashes in Jerusalem

Thousands of Israeli nationalists participated in the so-called "flags march" through the Muslim Quarter of the Old City of Jerusalem, and about 2,600 Israelis roamed the Al-Aqsa courtyard, a record number in one day.

Clashes erupted between the Palestinians and the Israeli police, who fired stun grenades to disperse them, and 79 Palestinians were wounded during the attacks.

Sheikh Ikrima Sabri, the preacher of Al-Aqsa Mosque, denounced these practices and told Reuters: "What happened today has not happened since 1967 because the extremist settlers began to seek and lie on the ground," and Sabri accused the Israeli government of deliberately escalating.

Palestinians in Jerusalem closed their shops hours before the scheduled start of the march, and clashes broke out from time to time as the marchers moved into the Muslim Quarter.

An Israeli youth was filmed spraying pepper spray on a Palestinian woman, which led to an exchange of punches and kicks.

The Palestinian news agency "Wafa" said that 79 Palestinians were injured in the attacks perpetrated by Israeli forces and settlers.

The Palestinian Red Crescent Society in Jerusalem reported that its crews dealt with 79 injuries, one with live bullets, and the rest with rubber-coated metal bullets, beatings, pepper spray, and falls around and inside the Old City.

She added that the Israeli police beat their crews in the vicinity of Bab al-Amud, while they were trying to reach one of the injured.
