“If we are talking about Azovstal, then the majority of local residents tend to believe that Azovstal does not need to be restored,” he said.

Local residents oppose the restoration of Azovstal due to the fact that the plant was a "major polluter of the environment," Pushilin explained.

According to him, the plant was built without taking into account environmental standards.

The possibility of building a technopark, a park zone or a residential area on the site of the plant is being considered.

“These are the options that, in principle, will be considered in their final form, and the residents of Mariupol will make a decision,” said the head of the DPR.

Pushilin also announced the elaboration of a program for launching the plant named after Ilyich and Azovmash.

In addition, he said that, according to preliminary data, more than 60% of houses in Mariupol are not subject to restoration.
