Born in 1794 in a small village in Corrèze, Jeanne Villepreux left her native land at the age of 18 to go to Paris.

There she meets James Power, a wealthy merchant whom she does not take long to marry and with whom she settles in Sicily.

Determined to learn, Jeanne Villepreux-Power is interested in the local fauna and flora and soon becomes passionate about marine species...
