China's foreign ministry on Friday accused US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken of "defaming" Beijing after he delivered a speech calling for measures to balance China's influence in the international arena.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry said that Minister Blinken published information that it described as false with the aim of distorting the image of China's foreign policy and interfering in its internal affairs.

She added that Washington will fail to exploit what it calls China's threat to solve its problems and will lead the world to the abyss, and indicated that the United States says one thing and does another on the Taiwan issue.

"On issues related to China's sovereignty and territorial integrity, it has no room for compromise," she said.

Beijing stressed that it "rules out any compromise" on Taiwan, and vowed to take "resolute measures to safeguard its sovereignty and security interests."

Earlier, US President Joe Biden announced that the United States would "intervene militarily" if China attacked Taiwan.

And the US Secretary of State said that China is the only country in the world that has the intent and economic, military and technological power to reshape the global order.

In a long-awaited speech on China delivered Thursday at George Washington University, Blinken called Beijing "the most serious long-term threat to the international system."

He added that the United States is not trying to change the political system in China, but is ready to cooperate with the Chinese government without compromising principles, as he put it.

In his speech, Blinken denounced the "increasing coercion" exercised by China on Taiwan, stressing that Washington's policy on this issue has not changed.

"Beijing's vision will distance us from the universal values that have maintained a great deal of global progress over the past 75 years," he added.

Beijing adopts the principle of "one China", stressing that the People's Republic of China is the only party authorized to represent China in international forums, and from time to time it threatens to use force and intervene militarily if Taiwan declares independence, and only 22 countries recognize Taiwan's independence.
