Yemen.. A UN call for the two sides of the Amman consultations to negotiate in good faith

Today, in the Jordanian capital, Amman, Yemeni consultations continued between the government delegation and the Houthi militia delegation for the second day in a row regarding the opening of roads and crossings, especially the Taiz roads.

Yemeni sources familiar with the course of the Amman consultations stated that the militia delegation tried to divert the consultations from their humanitarian aspect and turn them into a military issue, as part of the Houthis' evasion with the aim of evading the implementation of the armistice clause related to opening crossings and roads.

The sources indicated that the Houthis' elusiveness prompted the UN Special Envoy for Yemen, Hans Grundberg, to invite the two delegations to negotiate in good faith to reopen roads in Taiz and other provinces.

The sources expected that the next few hours would witness a breakthrough regarding the opening of roads in Taiz, Al-Bayda, Hajjah, Al-Dhalea and northern Lahij.

In a statement attributed to its special envoy to Yemen, the US State Department, Tim Lenderking, called on the Yemeni parties to overcome any differences within the framework of the road consultations in Amman, so that they can engage in lasting peace consultations.

The protests in Taiz continued, demanding the speedy opening of crossings and roads to alleviate the human suffering of the people of the province due to the Houthis' continued closure and the siege of the city, which lasted for more than seven years.

Meanwhile, the Houthi militia's violations of the UN truce continued in Yemen, with 68 violations committed by the militias during the past hours in seven governorates.

In Aden, one of the gunmen detonated a hand grenade in a popular market in the Sheikh Othman district, killing seven people and wounding twenty others, most of whom were described as serious, which suggests a high death toll.

On the other hand, the President of the Presidential Leadership Council issued a decision yesterday appointing Judge Qaher Mustafa as Attorney General of the Republic of Yemen.
