China News Service, Beijing, May 26 (Reporter Zhang Weiran and Huang Yuqin) Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin hosted a regular press conference on the 26th.

A reporter asked: According to reports, the US President's special envoy for Iran, Marley, said in congressional testimony on the 25th that the prospect of resuming the implementation of the JCPOA is tenuous.

If an agreement cannot be reached, the United States will strengthen sanctions against Iran and cooperate with regional partners such as Israel to deal with any escalation of the situation in Iran.

What is China's comment?

Wang Wenbin: I have noticed relevant reports.

The Chinese side also noted that Special Envoy Malik stated in his congressional testimony that the US policy of "maximum pressure" on Iran has failed.

But what is puzzling is that the US side knows that it has made a mistake, but it still refuses to repent and continues to strengthen sanctions against Iran.

This will not help break the deadlock in the Iranian nuclear negotiations, but will also undermine the negotiation process and further damage the credibility of the United States.

At present, the Iran nuclear negotiation has entered the final stage.

The more the last juncture is reached, the more all parties should step up their efforts to resolve outstanding issues as soon as possible, so as to avoid the failure of previous achievements.

As the initiator of the current Iranian nuclear crisis, the US should make a political decision as soon as possible, actively respond to Iran's legitimate concerns, and push for a smooth conclusion of the negotiations.

China has always firmly supported the process of political settlement of the Iranian nuclear issue, and will continue to participate constructively in the negotiation, push the JCPOA to return to the right track at an early date, safeguard the international nuclear non-proliferation regime, and maintain peace and stability in the Middle East.

At the same time, we will firmly safeguard our legitimate rights and interests.
