Scandal at "Party Gate" .. Johnson apologizes to cleaning workers and Downing Street guards

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson apologized Thursday to cleaning workers and security guards in Downing Street, after an investigation found they were abused by government employees who were throwing noisy parties during the Corona pandemic.

Following the release of the report, which was supervised by a senior civil servant, Sue Gray, on Wednesday, three MPs from Johnson's Conservative Party joined the voices calling for the prime minister to resign.

However, Johnson rejects this and says that while he feels "bitter remorse" about the violation of the rules and fines imposed by the police, he did not realize that the Covid rules established by his government were being violated, considering that it was time to move forward.

It was revealed by Gray that cleaners in Downing Street had to remove the red wine stains.

One of the participants in the parties vomited, and a quarrel broke out between two people who used alcohol.

Gray noted that cleaners and security guards were subjected to "multiple examples of disrespect and abuse" by government employees who participated in the parties.

In his daily press conference, Johnson's official spokesman said that the Prime Minister had to apologize personally after he had repeatedly stressed that any rules related to the pandemic had not been broken at a time when Britain was imposing a closure in the past two years.

"He apologized to a number of employees and spoke to others in the morning. He was very upset about that behaviour," the spokesman said, referring to security guards and cleaners.

He pointed out that the Downing Street rules have been changed so that alcohol is prohibited in offices, except during social events with guests from abroad.

"I don't think we still have the refrigerator," he added, referring to the wine-storage refrigerator that was brought in to facilitate parties, and which has been talked about a lot.

Poll results indicate public discontent A hastily conducted poll on Wednesday showed that three out of five people believed Johnson should resign, while 75 percent thought he had deliberately lied about the Partygate scandal.

However, the Conservative MPs do not show many indications that they want to move against him despite the great defeats the party suffered in recent elections, knowing that they are the only ones capable of ousting it without elections.
