The Ministry of the Interior is considering no longer deducting points from the driving license of motorists guilty of "minor speeding", less than 5 km / h, we learned from a source at the ministry.

The driving license and the gray card will "also be completely digitized", specifies the ministry.

A reflection is underway within the Ministry of the Interior in order to no longer remove points from the driving license of motorists guilty of "small speeding", we learned on Wednesday from Place Beauvau.

“We will hit much less on small speeding tickets,” said a source at the Ministry of the Interior.

Fines kept

"The idea is that you no longer lose a point if you are 5 km / h above" the authorized speed, added the ministry, specifying that the fines sanctioning these offenses would on the other hand be retained.

The driver's license and the gray card will "also be completely digitized", said the ministry, which hopes to implement digitization within "a year and a half, two years".

This operation must make it possible to guarantee that the person sanctioned is indeed the driver at fault and not a third party, the ministry further underlined, in order to prevent false declarations of drivers to avoid the withdrawal of points.

This reflection comes a few minutes after the meeting of the prefects around Gérald Darmanin, the Minister of the Interior, who mentioned the priority sites for security.

The fight against delinquency, the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and immigration are among them.
