He said this in Berlin at a joint press conference with his German counterpart Annalena Burbock.

According to Rau, Berlin should take "a leading role in building a security system in Europe" that "will take into account the interests of Ukraine" and will be "directed against Russia."

“We hope that Germany will take on such a role, helping Ukraine win the war with Russia and ultimately supporting the Ukrainian application for candidate status,” TASS quoted the Polish minister as saying.

"There is no alternative to this," he stressed.

“Otherwise, Germany will lose credibility to a large extent,” Rau said.

Ukrainian Ambassador to Germany Andriy Melnik said earlier that the ruling coalition in Germany should “not just wait and see”, but play a leading role in ensuring that Ukraine receives the status of a candidate for EU membership.
