Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin hosted a regular press conference on May 23.

A reporter asked about "US President Biden said during his visit to Japan that the US would intervene militarily if China launched an action against Taiwan."

Wang Wenbin: China expresses strong dissatisfaction and firm opposition to the US's remarks.

There is only one China in the world, Taiwan is a part of China, and the government of the People's Republic of China is the only legitimate government representing the whole of China. This is not only a consensus of the international community, but also a political commitment made by the United States to China.

The Taiwan issue is purely China's internal affairs and brooks no interference from any foreign forces.

On issues concerning China's core interests such as sovereignty and territorial integrity, China has no room for compromise.

No one should underestimate the strong determination, firm will, and strong ability of the Chinese people to defend national sovereignty and territorial integrity, and do not stand against the 1.4 billion Chinese people.

We urge the US side to abide by the one-China principle and the provisions of the three Sino-US joint communiques, abide by the important commitment of not supporting "Taiwan independence", be prudent in words and deeds on the Taiwan issue, and refrain from sending any wrong signals to the "Taiwan independence" separatist forces so as not to criticize the "Taiwan independence" separatist forces. The situation in the Taiwan Strait and Sino-US relations have caused serious damage.

China will take firm actions to safeguard its sovereignty and security interests, and we will do what we say.
