Both the government and the opposition in Frankfurt's city parliament are unanimously calling for the immediate resignation of Mayor Peter Feldmann.

If he fails to do so, he faces a de-selection process.

On Monday, his own party, the SPD, appealed to Feldmann to “make the well-being of the city the guiding principle of his actions and to resign from office”.

The trigger is a statement by Feldmann about flight attendants that has often been criticized as misogynistic.

A video has been circulating on social media since the weekend, showing the SPD politician on the plane on the outward flight to Seville for the Frankfurt Eintracht European Cup final.

He speaks to the approximately 200 Eintracht fans on the plane via the on-board microphone.

He says that the flight attendants "first put him out of action hormonally".

A spokesman for Feldmann pointed out that he apologized for the statement on the plane.

It was "a stupid saying".

"It wasn't okay, no ifs or buts." He promises that something like this will never happen again.

Irrespective of this, the SPD party executive condemns Feldmann's behavior.

The statement is not a trivial offense, but a sexist derailment.

"This behavior is one of a number of other mistakes."

"It's not about the city, it's about his person"

The party executive includes Feldmann's behavior at the reception for the European Cup winners of Frankfurt's Eintracht in the Römer, where the mayor took the trophy away from team captain Sebastian Rode and coach Oliver Glasner.

Feldmann has lost the trust of the citizens.

"The dignity of the office, the reputation of the city and the ability of the magistrate to act require the resignation of the mayor."

The Frankfurt Eintracht meanwhile let the mayor know that he was no longer welcome in the stadium.

He apparently arbitrarily prohibited some members of the supervisory team and officials from entering the Roman balcony at the celebrations after the Europa League victory.

"In the future there will no longer be any basis between Eintracht Frankfurt and him," said Eintracht board spokesman Axel Hellmann of the "Bild" newspaper.

Eintracht confirmed the statements on request.

"I can't imagine that Peter Feldmann is still welcome at our games in the stadium."

The 63-year-old SPD politician grabbed the Europa League trophy at the celebration last Thursday and carried it into the Kaisersaal of the Römer, where the ceremony took place.

“The players and coaches present the pot to the people.

Everything else is vanity and narcissism,” Hellmann criticized.

As a further reason, the SPD cites the corruption charges against Feldmann in the AWO affair and the criminal prosecution he is threatened with.

The citizens cannot be expected to continue waiting to see whether the main hearing will be opened because of the allegation of taking advantage.

Frankfurt needs a mayor who can focus all his energy on the well-being of the city.

Criminal proceedings cannot be agreed with the office.

The SPD chairman Mike Josef made it clear that the mood in the party executive was clear.

Feldmann had not only become unbearable because of “all the gaffes”.

He also does not stick to the announcement that he will hold back with public appearances.

The last few days have shown: "It's not about the city, it's about his person."
