China News Service, Beijing, May 23 (Xie Yanbing) Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin hosted a regular press conference on May 23.

A reporter asked: In their joint meeting, the leaders of the United States and Japan expressed their strong opposition to the so-called "China's attempt to change the status quo in the East China Sea and the South China Sea", emphasizing the importance of peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait.

What is China's comment?

Wang Wenbin: China's position on Taiwan, the Diaoyu Islands, and maritime-related issues has always been clear.

We firmly oppose the US and Japan hyping up related issues to smear China's image and interfere in China's internal affairs.

The DPP authorities are promoting "Taiwan independence" separatist activities, which are fueled by the United States and other countries. This is the biggest threat to peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait.

Japan bears historical guilt towards the Chinese people on the Taiwan issue, and should be more cautious in its words and deeds, earnestly learn the lessons of history, and avoid repeating the same mistakes.

I would also like to stress that the so-called "deterrence and containment" policy of the US has already messed up Europe and should not harm the Asia-Pacific again.

The Asia-Pacific is a high ground for peaceful development, not a geopolitical arena.

The US and Japan stick to the Cold War mentality, form cliques to engage in military alliances and economic decoupling, and provoke separatism and confrontation. Their plans are unpopular in the Asia-Pacific and will not succeed.
