The North Korean leader appears at a mass funeral without a mask, despite the outbreak of the epidemic in his country

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un participated in a huge funeral held for a senior army official, in the presence of a large number of fans, according to what the Associated Press quoted the official media in Pyongyang as saying, at a time when the number of people infected with Corona reached nearly three. Millions of people.

On Sunday, the official North Korean Central News Agency said Kim attended the funeral of Hyun Chul Hae, commander of the Korean People's Army, who played a key role in preparing Kim to be the country's next leader before the death of Kim's father, in late 2011.

And official media pictures showed Kim while participating in carrying the coffin himself without wearing a muzzle, while the others were wearing face masks, at a time when Pyongyang claims that the outbreak of the Corona virus is receding.

And the official media announced, on Sunday, that 2.6 million people had a "fever", out of a population of about 25 million.

And the death of 67 people was recorded, according to official figures, which is a very low mortality rate (0.003 percent), especially since the population is not vaccinated, while a large segment of the population suffers from malnutrition.

North Korea has limited testing capabilities for many patients, but some experts say deaths may also be underreported, in order to protect Kim from political harm.

State television showed a video of Kim handing a shovel into the cemetery before tossing it aside and bending over to use his bare hands to sprinkle sand on the coffin.
