"New York City Mayor Eric Adams signed Emergency Executive Order 98 declaring a state of emergency due to infant formula shortages," the city's website said in a statement.

The report also said that the nationwide shortage of infant formula was caused by the temporary closure of Abbott Nutrition, the largest supplier of the product in the country.

Earlier, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said that military transport aviation began to urgently import baby food from Europe to the United States.
