Europe 1 Studio SEASON 2021 - 202207:00 a.m., May 23, 2022

Listen in the podcast "At the heart of History" the story of the creation of the Marseillaise by Claude Rouget de Lisle in the 18th century.

The national anthem of France is known throughout the world, but the name of its author has fallen into the dustbin of history... When revolutionary France declared war on the Austrian monarchy in April 1792, Rouget de Lisle is still only a thirty-year-old captain, poet and author of plays in his spare time.

How will his fate change?

In this first part of the episode produced by Europe 1 Studio, Clémentine Portier-Kaltenbach looks back on the events that led to the creation of La Marseillaise.

In this new episode of the storytelling podcast "At the heart of History", Clémentine Portier-Kaltenbach recounts the life of Claude Rouget de Lisle, author of La Marseillaise.

In April 1794, a few days after France declared war on Austria, Rouget de Lisle was invited to a dinner organized by the mayor of Strasbourg, Dietrich.

This then asks him to compose a song that will galvanize the troops of volunteer soldiers to defend the homeland.

He doesn't know it yet, but the melody he will imagine on returning home will soon become the anthem of France... This story is a Europe 1 Studio production.
