The decision, which was signed by Minister of Defense Peter Hultqvist, was made on 19 May this year and is a supplementary assignment as a result of the decision previously made to expand Sweden's military and civil defense.

In the assignment, the Armed Forces will provide an analysis of how the proposals affect the authority's ability to defend the country against armed attack.

This includes, among other things, that the Armed Forces will review the military capability in upper Norrland, develop preparations for the defense decision in 2025 and review the planning work regarding special measures, the decision states.

More money for FRA

In addition, it is emphasized that the planning must take into account the need to strengthen brigade capability, underwater capability and amphibious capability.

It is also stated that strategic materiel projects will be developed to secure the long-term supply and capability in the combat aviation area.

The appropriations for the Swedish Armed Forces' radio station will also be increased during the period.

The authorities covered by the assignment must themselves submit opinions on the feasibility and financing of the proposals.

Any consequences and conditions for implementing them must also be reported there.

An account of the Armed Forces' analysis must be presented no later than 1 November 2022.
