A high-ranking US official said on the 22nd that it is necessary to develop the quad itself on the issue of adding Korea to the Quad.

In a briefing with the White House press team accompanying President Joe Biden's visit to Korea, the official said, "Right now, we are not considering adding a quad to South Korea. That's my goal right now," he said.

As it has not been a long time since Quad was upgraded to a top-level meeting, it is important to develop the existing agenda of Quad and strengthen its stability rather than adding member states.

The US has taken the position that it has not yet pursued a 'quad plus (+)' that adds member states to the quad in response to related questions.

Regarding Korea's participation in the quad, this high-ranking official showed a cautious attitude the day before, saying, "I do not want to go ahead" to the accompanying reporters.

Quad is a consultative body to contain the United States, Japan, Australia, and India against China, and the second face-to-face meeting between the leaders of these four countries will be held in Japan on the 24th.

If you include the video conference, it is already the fourth time since Biden took office.
