Magnitude 6.1 earthquake strikes Philippines

An earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale rocked today the Batangas province, south of the Philippine capital, "Manila" on the main island of Luzon, but there were no reports of damage or injuries.

According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, the epicenter of the quake was located at a depth of 132 km, about 21 km northwest of the town of "Calatagan".

The Philippines is located in the Pacific "Ring of Fire" region, which experiences about 90% of earthquakes in the world.
