Israel adds 5 years to prison sentences for Palestinian prisoners who escaped from Gilboa prison

An Israeli court on Sunday handed down an additional five-year prison sentence to five of the six Palestinian prisoners who escaped from the high-security Gilboa prison in northern Israel last September.
The court convicted the accused of escaping from prison.
According to the Israel Broadcasting Corporation, the verdict against the sixth prisoner is scheduled for later today.
The six had escaped after digging a tunnel under the prison walls from their cell, and they were all re-arrested after two weeks of chases.
After the six escaped, the Israeli Prison Authority was subjected to severe criticism, and an official investigation committee was formed to examine the shortcomings that gave them the opportunity to escape.
