German diplomat: Putin seeks to create hunger crises in the Middle East and Africa

A former German ambassador to Russia stated that he believes that Russian President Vladimir Putin is deliberately seeking to create hunger crises in the Middle East and Africa.

German diplomat Rudiger von Fritsch told the German newspaper "Tagesspiegel" in its edition issued on Sunday that the goal is to destabilize Europe through massive refugee movements.

"Putin's calculations are that after grain supplies are cut off, hungry people will flee these areas and try to reach Europe, as millions of Syrians did before fleeing the horrors of war," von Fritsch continued.

He added that for this reason Russia is currently obstructing Ukraine from exporting grain and bombing granaries. "Through new waves of refugees, he (Putin) wants to destabilize Europe and build political pressure for Western countries to give up their tough stance against Russia. This is the management of his new hybrid war. ".

It is noteworthy that it also falls within the concept of hybrid warfare to use non-military means such as cyber attacks or disinformation campaigns.
