On the 20th local time, WHO convened a technical advisory group meeting to discuss information and response strategies on monkeypox.

There are currently about 80 confirmed cases of monkeypox globally, with 50 more to be confirmed.

More cases may be detected in the future as surveillance is expanded.

The WHO notes that monkeypox is generally endemic in certain animal populations in some countries, occasionally infecting locals and travelers.

But monkeypox cases have been reported in 11 countries and territories, which is atypical because it occurs in countries that are not endemic for monkeypox.

Monkeypox is mainly spread through close contact.

The risk of contracting monkeypox is higher if you are in close contact with someone who is contagious, including health workers, family members and sexual partners.
