A tornado swept through the Gaylord community of Michigan in the United States just before 4 p.m. local time.

The tornado tore off the roofs of houses, overturned cars and trees and pulled down power lines.

At least 23 have been injured and one person has died, reports AP.

Mike Klepadlo, who runs a car repair shop, says he and his employees took shelter in a bathroom.

- I'm glad I'm alive.

It blew away the back of the house, six meters of the wall is gone and the whole roof is missing, he says.
