Moscow is close to taking full control of the Ukrainian Luhansk region

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu confirmed Friday that complete control of the Ukrainian region of Luhansk (east) is almost achieved, and that 1,908 Ukrainian soldiers holed up in the Azovstal steel plant in Mariupol surrendered.

"Units of the Russian armed forces with divisions of people's militias in the Lugansk and Donetsk People's Republics continue to exercise control over the Donbass lands...the liberation of the Lugansk People's Republic is almost complete," the minister said, according to Russian news agencies.
