The socialist elephants are still standing against the PS agreement with La France insoumise.

Jean-Christophe Cambadélis calls for the self-dissolution of the party, while Lionel Jospin supports the dissident Lamia El Aaraje on the ground.

Bernard Cazeneuve, meanwhile, would be invested with a discreet mission with the majority.

ANALYSIS

What role does Bernard Cazeneuve play in the legislative elections?

In the coming days, the former Prime Minister of François Hollande will support several dissident candidacies of the Nupes, like the various leftist Rémi Branco in the Lot.

Behind the scenes, according to several macronists, his mission is to try to bring down the socialist dissidents after their election towards the presidential majority.

An attitude which is added to that of two other socialist elephants upwind against the agreement of the PS with La France insoumise such as Jean-Christophe Cambadélis, who asks for the self-dissolution of the PS, or Lionel Jospin who supports on the ground the dissident Lamia El Aaraje.

A rare figure able to speak to voters on the left

In a very methodical way, Bernard Cazeneuve spoke this Wednesday with Elisabeth Borne at Matignon, just after his appointment.

An exchange which is not insignificant, while the new Prime Minister is currently forming her government.

According to information from Europe 1, following this exchange, a ministry was even offered to him, but Bernard Cazeneuve would have declined the offer for the moment.

It must be understood, however, that he plays a very important role for Emmanuel Macron.

The former prime minister remains one of the few left-wing figures still able to speak to socialist voters.

And therefore, he is able to weaken the candidates supported by the New Popular Ecological and Social Union (Nupes) of Jean-Luc Mélenchon.
