The waterworks has already been started up and tested, but so far no water goes into the pipe network.

- We are sampling.

There must be two approved samples before we can deliver the water.

One test has been given the green light and now we are waiting for the second test.

I expect it to be ready within a two-week period, says Tony Kölborg, unit manager for the VA unit in Degerfors municipality.

The raw water is obtained from four wells from Letälvsåsen, which is advantageous from a treatment point of view.

The groundwater has a low surface temperature, lower levels of bacteria and organic material compared to surface water.

Bacteria in the process

After aeration, the water passes tanks with bacteria that feed on manganese.

Via sand filters, it is then pumped through UV filters and eventually further out into the water network.

- We have built for the future, so should there be a change in water quality, we can add chemicals, but that is not something we do today, says Kölborg.
